After receiving your rope access certification, the next important step in your career is finding the right gear suited to you, so you can start to work. đź’Ş âž°

The equipment you need to begin work in rope access is important, however brands and accessories vary depending on where you will be working. What you eventually purchase will also depend on what gear you are most comfortable using and wearing. During your training it is important to try all of the options that the trainer provides, ensuring that your decision is based on the knowledge rather than guesswork and brand loyalty.

The following list is a basic guideline of what may be included in a typical rope access kit:

  • Helmet for protection against dropped items and swing-falls

  • Harness for fall protection
  • Descender to lower and control rope travel
  • Ascenders (chest & hand) to climb and raise
  • Back up Device in case of overly quick descent
  • Foot loops assist with climbing
  • Connectors / Karabiners hold it all together
  • Lanyards for work positioning or short-distance anchoring
  • Rope of course!

There are additional items you might need as well including kit bags, rope bags, rope protectors and pulleys, however, this list gives you a basic idea of what’s necessary to get started.
